Tom Brokaw, Rick Santorum in Laurens

With our state holding one of the first three major events in the process of selecting a Republican candidate for the Presidency, news sources from across the country and world are looking at South Carolina as we prepare for the Presidential Preference Primary this Saturday. And some of them have come to Laurens County.

NBC News cameras were in Laurens Tuesday morning as Tom Brokaw came to town. The veteran NBC reporter was observed on the square. While in town, he interviewed Laurens County Administrator Ernie Segars about the county. It seems the thrust of the story Tom Brokaw was working on was how Laurens County is starting to recover from loosing most of our textile jobs, with new industry now coming here. It reportedly will air Thursday night on NBC.

Noting Tuesday’s NBC News visit to the Laurens Square, Laurens Mayor Sharon Brownlee opened that night’s Laurens City Council meeting repeating her frequent call that we must always be ready for visitors. Brownlee says people who can make a difference are always coming to Laurens, and we need to always be ready.

One of the remaining candidates for the Republican nomination is to be in Laurens Wednesday afternoon. Rick Santorum is to hold a Town Hall meeting at the Capitol Theatre Wednesday afternoon between12:45and2 pm.Santorum County Coordinator Allen Lollis said the candidate is to make comments and take questions during his visit early Wednesday afternoon.
