  • The Braves put 4 runs on the board in the 1st inning then went on to take a 7-3 win over the Chicago Cubs in Atlanta last night… The Braves were playing long-ball last night as they had 4 homeruns on the evening.. Jason Heyward and Brian McCann both had 2 run homers in the in the big 1st inning while later Freddie Freeman and Juan Francisco both had solo shots.. The Braves will go on a short 3 game road trip to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies this weekend.
  • In a side note, Atlanta’s Michael Bourn came up a little short in fan voting for the final slot on the N.L. All-Star team.. He finished 2nd to St. Louis Cardinals 3rd baseman David Freese. 

Greenville Drive:

  • It’s a good news – bad news situation for you Greenville Drive fans as they did not lose last night.. but they also did not win.. Their game against the Rome Braves was rained out last night up at Flour Field..  They will make up that game at 5 today then play the regularly scheduled game after that.. The same 2 teams will play tomorrow & Sunday in Greenville. 


  • NASCAR’s 2 major divisions will be at Daytona this weekend with the Nationwide gang racing tonight and the Sprint Cup racers going Saturday night.
  • Looking at the Sprint Cup Series standings going into this weekend:  Matt Kenseth remains in 1st place with 633 points.. 11 points behind him is Dale Earnhart Jr. who moved up one spot this week.. In 3rd is Jimmie Johnson 23 points behind the leader Kenseth..  Dropping from 2nd to 4th is Greg Biffle 25 points back and in 5th is Denny Hamlin 68 points back

  • A last reminder that the Clinton YMCA is having a boy’s basketball camp Monday – Thur. next week and a youth golf camp Tues. – Thur. next week..  Better go by the Y quickly to sign up before it’s too late.. Call 833-1555 if you have questions.
  • Also the Laurens YMCA will be conducting an Archery camp Mon. – Thur. mornings at the Y and a basketball camp Mon. – Thur. evenings at the Y next week… Deadline to register is this weekend… Go by the Laurens Y to register or call 984-2621 if you have questions. 

And finally, its only 49 days until the start of high school football season on August 24th when Laurens host BHP and Clinton host Gaffney.
