Braves:

  • The Braves and the Giants ended regulation play tied at 1 all last night down in Atlanta.. The Giants then scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th but the Braves answered when Brian McCann stroked a 2-out two run homer to tie the game..  The Giants then answered with a pair of 3-run homers in the top of the 11th to take a 9-3 lead.. Chipper Jones did manage to get a solo homer in the bottom of the 11th but the Braves could get no closer as the Giants took a 9-4 win.. The Braves will try to avoid being swept by the Giants as they play at noon today. 

Greenville Drive:

  • The Greenville Drive were off last night and will start a 4 game series tonight up at Flour Field against the Lexington Legends. 

College Football

  • Pittsburg and the Big East Conference announced yesterday that they have reached an agreement very similar to the agreement reached between the conference and Syracuse earlier this week.. The agreement allows both schools to leave the conference on July 1, 2013 and not wait 27 months as is required in the Big East bylaws.. The early exit comes with a price tag of $7.5 million. 

NASCAR: Couple of NASCAR notes:

  • Bob Osborne is stepping away from his position as crew chief for the #99 car driven by Carl Edwards effective immediately.. He is transitioning to another position in the Roush Fenway Racing team for health reasons.. Chad Norris is stepping into the position vacated by Osborne.
  • AJ Allmendinger’s “B” urine sample will be tested next Tuesday.. Allmendinger has elected to have his own expert at the test.. Allmendinger has been suspended since the 1st week of this month when his “A” sample tested positive for a stimulant.
  • Two NASCAR drivers and their wives have had births in their family the last 2 weeks.. Monday Ryan Newman and his wife Krisse welcomed the birth of their daughter Ashlyn Olivia.. They also have a 13 month old daughter.. On Sunday July 8th Kevin Harvick and his wife DeLana welcomed their 1st child a son named Keelan Paul. 

This & That:

  • The Clinton YMCA is offering tennis camps Tuesday – Friday next week and the instructor is CHS Tennis Coach Clovis Simmons.. From 10-11am there will be a camp for youth ages 7-10 and then from 11-12am a camp for youth 11 and older.. Great chance for your kids to pick up pointers from one of the better coaches around.. Call 833-1555 for more information.  
  • Meanwhile over at the Laurens YMCA they will hold a soccer camp Tuesday – Thursday… This camp will be in the evening from 6-8pm and the instructors are Bob Shapiro & Josie Parker.. It’s open to youth ages 7-16.. Also another camp at the Laurens Y next week is a Clown Camp also in the evening from 6-8.. It also is open to youth 7-16.. Personally knowing the instructor former Ringling Brothers – Barnum & Bailey circus clown Ron Yarborough, I expect this to be a fun class.. For more information on either of these, call the Laurens Y at 984-2621.

And finally, its only 36 days until the start of high school football season on August 24th when Laurens host  BHP and Clinton host Gaffney.
