  • The Braves avoided being swept by the Giants yesterday afternoon as they took a 3-2 win in Atlanta.. The Braves only had 3 hits in the game but made the most of them.. David Ross & Freddie Freeman both had solo homers and Michael Bourn had a RBI triple to account for the Braves runs..  Tim Hudson picked up the win going 7⅓ innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits.. Craig Kimbrel picked up the save.. The Braves start a week long road trip and the 1st stop will be in Washington to take on the Nationals in a weekend series. 

Greenville Drive:

  • The Greenville Drive returned home last night to face the Lexington Legends in a 4 game series.. The Drive scored 3 runs to tie the game at 8 all in the bottom of the 9th and send it into extra innings… Both teams scored 2 run in the 12th inning tome make the game 10 all.. The Drive finally scored a run in the bottom of the 15th inning to take the 11-10 win. 


  • A quick look at the NASCAR schedule for the weekend shows that the Sprint Cup Series will take the weekend off and will be back in action on Sunday the 29th up in Indianapolis at the brickyard.. The Nationwide Series drivers will be in action this Sunday at the Chicagoland Speedway in the STP 300. 

This & That:

  • Want to take this opportunity to wish the Dixie Youth 14U All-Star Team good luck as they travel down to Beaufort to play in the state tournament.. They play their 1st game in the double-elimination tournament at 7 pm Saturday..  The team is coached by Quincey Cook, Terry Grubbs and Scott Fuller
  • A quick final reminder that the Clinton YMCA is having tennis camps Tuesday – Friday next week in the mornings for 2 different age groups.. If you want your child in one, go by the Y to register or call 833-1555 for more details.
  • Also the Laurens Y will hold a soccer camp Tuesday – Thursday next week in the evening for youth ages 7-16 and also a clown camp for youth the same age also in the evening.. Deadline to register is Sunday.. Do by the Laurens Y or call 984-2621 for more details.
  • And lastly the City of Laurens Park & Recreation Department will have a basketball camp at LDHS next from Monday – Thursday morning.. Registration can be done at the Little River Park during their normal hours.. For more information, please email LaurensPRD@
  • And finally as we go, the 2012 Summer Olympics officially open 1 week from today in London England. 

And finally, its only 35 days until the start of high school football season on August 24th when Laurens host  BHP and Clinton host Gaffney.
