Raiders Gain Victory Before Rain Calls Match

LDHS Lady Raider Tennis gained four wins before rain canceled the final two matches of Tuesday’s match against Woodmont.

Junior Sara Kalyn Croker (#1) opened strong against Woodmont’s Helen Campbell, going up 6-1 in the first before taking the second set 6-2. Croker played consistent ground strokes to keep Campbellon the defensive throughout the match.

Laurens’ # 2 Rebecca Corley defeated Meredith Kiser 6-2, 6-1.  Corley placed the ball well, driving the Woodmont #2 around the court.

Brittany Horner (#3) lost her first set 2-6 before withdrawing due to injury.

#4 Kathleen Horner played the Raiders’ closest match, taking a 6-4, 7-5 win over Emily Mayes.  Horner gained the early momentum, going up quickly in the first before allowing the Woodmont #4 back in the match.  The second set proved difficult as Horner tired and Mayes came back to five all.  Horner took the last two, including the final game in which she went up 40-15 before gaining the win.

#1 doubles gave the Raiders the win as Croker and Corley took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Campbell and Kiser.

#5 Ellen Young split sets with Toni D’Antonio (5-7, 6-4).  The pair was tied at 2-2 in the match tiebreaker when rain stopped their match.

At #2 doubles Bailey Rush and Moriah Campbell went up 6-2 in the first and held a 5-4 second set lead when rain stopped the match

The Raiders play Easley Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at the Laurens City Courts.
