Lady Raiders Tennis Team Blanked by Easley

Raiders Lose 0-7 to Easley, Look to the Future

Easley took quick wins on almost every court Tuesday night against the Lady Raider tennis team. Kathleen Horner (#3) played the Raiders’ closest match, falling 6-7 (6-8), 2-6.  “Kathleen played a fantastic match – especially having to move up a spot.  Kat is like a backboard; she keeps hitting the ball back, and I think she frustrated the Easley girl [Madison Galloway],” Coach David Corley said.

#1 Sara Kalyn Croker lost to Abby Cook (2-6, 0-6).  #2 Rebecca Corley was sick and missed the night’s match, forcing the other girls to move up a slot.  “We hated to have to move up, but realistically, the experience was good for us.  Bailey [#6 Bailey Rush] got to play singles.  We were able to move Kambrea Gosnell up to #2 doubles, and the other girls got a taste of the next level,” Coach Corley said.  “We needed that taste of next year.”  Rebecca Corley is the only senior on the Raider squad.

#2 Brittany Horner fell 0-6, 0-6 to Katie Hopkins.  #4 Ellen Young scored three games in her loss (2-6, 1-6).  #5 Bailey Rush got off to a shaky start, double faulting a number of balls to lose the first set 0-6 before finding her footing to play a 3-6 second set.  “Bailey has really come on strong,” Corley said.  “She’s ready to play at a higher level.  The second set showed that she can play.”

#2 doubles (Moriah Campbell and Kambrea Gosnell) lost 3-6, 0-6 to Leah Young and Krista Day.  Kambrea Gosnell stepped up to the doubles position from #9 and played well.  “Kambrea’s strokes looked good.  She made some shots at net.  For a first match, she did well.  Moriah has really stepped up her game in the last week.  They did as well as we could hope,” Corley said.

Croker and Brittany Horner played an 0-6, 0-6 loss to Easley’s #1 and #2.  The Raiders were also able to get Reagan Hall, Ali DeVuono, Julianne Turner, Ella Orcutt, Anna Bottu, and Madison Clarke on the courts in jayvee matches.  “All the girls played well,” Corley said.  “We prepared for the future tonight.”

The Raiders play at home against TL Hanna Thursday at 5:00 p.m. on the Laurens City Courts.
