Assault Leads to More Charges

  The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Boat Launch Drive, Waterloo at 8:39 Friday night on an assault report. A woman was observed with injury to her right ear and scratches on her back. Further investigation indicated other offenses.

   40-year-old Michael Dean “Mike” Staggs of 59 Rabon Shores Road, Waterloo was charged with Assault and Battery 3rd, Receiving Stolen Goods and with Possession of a Firearm. Mr. Staggs is accused of grabbing a Mountville woman Friday and pushing her down on a gravel driveway, causing lacerations to her right ear and minor cuts and a scrape to her back and shoulder. She was transported to the Laurens County Hospital for treatment. Mike Staggs is also accused of receiving a Pop-Up camper valued in excess of $5,000 Friday, knowing it was stolen.  An additional warrant states that Staggs had in his possession a .32 caliber revolver Friday evening, which he is prohibited from having because he has been convicted of a felony. The firearm was reportedly found at the subject’s house. Mike Staggs was being held in theLaurensCountyDetentionCenter with bonds totaling over $20,000.
