Leaving Car on Bridge, Man Flees Across Little River

A Laurens man is now facing multiple charges after a foot chase across the Little River early this morning. Laurens Police Officer Andrew Ashley was on routine patrol east-bound on Main Street when he came up behind a silver Mitsubishi stopped at the red light at Harper Street at 12:27 am today. The officer reports he observed the driver not wearing a seat belt, and suspected the window tint was beyond the legal limit. He made a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped on the Little River Bridge, and the driver reportedly exited the vehicle in a sprint, then ran off the bridge and down to the river. Laurens Police followed the subject on foot as he crossed the river back towards the railroad tracks. After briefly loosing sight of the subject in woods on the other side, the subject was captured and taken into custody.

24-year-old Torrin Jernard Smith of 116 Garlington Street, Laurens was charged with Illegal Window Tinting and Not Wearing a Seat Belt plus Flight Upon Sight. He was also charged with 2nd offense Driving Under Suspension and with Driving a Vehicle with an expired License.
