You Can’t Sell Beer to a Minor in South Carolinor

Clinton Public Safety Officer Thomas Peay reported observing a male coming from the Shell Gas Station at South Broad and Jacobs Highway at 9:33 Tuesday night carrying two bags containing beer. Officer Peay noted that The subject didn’t seem old enough to have beer, and followed a Ford pickup the subject got in as it traveled down Broad. After observing the subject change lanes without using a turn signal, the officer made a traffic stop. On checking the drivers’ license, he found the subject was under age 21. Officer Peay checked and found there were no occupants in the vehicle 21 or older. The subject turned over the beer from the Shell station that was in the back of the truck. The young man indicated he had purchased the beer without using a fake ID. The youth driving the pickup gave a witness statement about the beer purchase. The officer then went to the store and talked with the clerk, 20-year-old Vaibhav R. Patel of 18 19th Street, Greer. Mr. Patel was issued a citation charging him with Sale of  Beer to a Person Under Age 21. Patel was advised on his court date and officers cleared the scene.
