Lady Raiders Play-off Hopes Weakened: Hillcrest Takes Win
The LDHS Lady Raider Tennis team traveled to Hillcrest Thursday night with hopes of a fourth-place region finish and an assured play-off spot, but the team fell 2-5, dropping to fifth in the region and placing them in the mix for an at-large fifth-place play-off bid.
“We’re really not sure how the play-offs will fall out. There will be two #5s in the bracket, but I’m not sure how we’ll stand,” Coach David Corley said. “Once the regions meet, we may have a spot, but the loss cost us our guarantee.”
The Raiders picked up wins at number 4 and #1 doubles.
#4 Kathleen Horner played to a match tiebreak win over Madison Carver. Horner jumped to a 6-1 first-set advantage before Carver began battling back. Horner dropped the second set 3-6 but won the match tiebreaker 10-7.
#1 doubles Sara Kalyn Croker and Rebecca Corley added the only other win of the night 6-2, 6-2 over Katie Tuten and Lauren Kelly. “We were glad to get the final win of the night. Even in loss, we want to move forward. This may have been Rebecca’s [senior Rebecca Corley] last match. The girls wanted this win, and they took it.”
