Roger Rice Memorial Fund Assisted this Weekend

Three thousand dollars was raised this past weekend for the Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride-On Fund. This is a fund established by the parents of Laurens County Deputy
Sheriff Roger Rice after he was fatally shot in the line of duty in July of 2011. The $3,000 raised this weekend was from the 2012 Upstate South Carolina
Law Enforcement Memorial Softball Tournament on Saturday, sponsored by the Greer Police Department. Deputy Rice’s parents, Roger and Debbie Rice, created
this fund to assist law enforcement officers who may be in need of financial assistance due to injury or other unforeseen circumstances.  Roger Rice
Senior said “We started this fund to help officers who may be in a situation that need some help.  It’s what Roger would have wanted.”

The Board which was established to govern who is eligible to receive assistance has already made their first contribution to assist an officer.  “We would
eventually like to see this fund expand from Laurens County to the entire state,” Debbie Rice said.  She and her husband have held several fundraising events from a motorcycle ride to selling pumpkins for the Ride-On Fund.

Anyone who wants to make a donation payable to the Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride-On Fund can mail their contribution to The Roger Rice Ride-On Fund at 871 Boyd Mill Pond Road, Laurens, SC 29360, or in care of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office to PO Box   68, Laurens, SC 29360.
