A Western Laurens County man reported a possible fraudulent ‘confidence game’ to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office yesterday afternoon in an apparent Breach of Trust. The Ware Shoals area man said that he had been searching for a utility building for storage back in July and August and in that search made contact with a man who supposedly lives in Aiken. The subject had advertised modular buildings for sale on Craig’s List. After talking with the Aiken man, the Ware Shoals resident went to Kershaw County and inspected the buildings, which were reportedly being stored at a school in Lugoff, pending their sale.
In August, the victim reportedly met with the Aiken man in the Ware Shoals area and they agreed for the purchase of s 25 x 32 modular building at a price of $2,500 along with another $2,500 for delivery and set-up. The Laurens County man wrote a check that day for $3,750, which was cashed that same day. However, as of yesterday, the victim has yet to see the building, or the Aiken man who is supposed to have it delivered to his property.
