Something smells. That is one conclusion one may consider from a report to the Laurens County Sheriff’s office in the noon hour yesterday. A Deputy was dispatched to the Dollar General Store in Gray Court, where she was told of shoplifting suspects who had taken an item, and that the same subjects had done this before at that store, and at the Hickory Tavern store, where they keep stealing air fresheners. Yesterday, the clerk indicated a female suspect came into the Gray Court store and began to steal the air fresheners by putting them into her purse by the handful. A man reportedly observed this and alerted the clerk, who then confronted the female subject. When confronted, the female subject started taking the air fresheners out of her purse and attempted to leave. Another clerk locked the front door to the store in an attempt to contain the suspect until law enforcement could arrive. The female suspect then unlocked the door and pushed past a man at the door and got into a burgundy SUV driven by the male subject. The store clerks were able to get the license plate number of the vehicle as it left. It was found listed on the NCIC as a tag that was stolen at the Anderson Jockey Lot.
Meanwhile, a check with the Hickory Tavern store came up with a name of the male suspect in the series of shoplifting incidents. He has been placed on trespass notice from that store for allegedly stealing air fresheners. The female suspect from yesterday’s incident in Gray Court is noted as having been the driver in the male suspects’ shoplifting at Hickory Tavern. The case was being turned over to Investigations at the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
