Two fatalities are under investigation of the Laurens County Sheriff’s office this morning.
Deputies were dispatched on a fatal shooting report in theWaterlooarea shortly after 2 o’clock this morning. Details were limited during our initial check on the story. Deputies were questioning a person or persons in the Sheriff’s office this morning in their attempt to determine specifics of the event. A person considered a suspect in the fatal shooting was being sought by Sheriff’s Officers in the pre-dawn hours today.
Deputies were dispatched to a structure fire in the Cold Point community at 200 Highway 39, Mountville this morning at 4:38. This is a mobile home located near the Highway 39 intersection with US 221.
A report from Lt. Marlon Higgenbotham indicates that a man and woman and their child had been sleeping in the living room of the mobile home and were awakened by a fire alarm. They were able to escape the residence. However, another person did not. Firefighters reportedly found the deceased person in a back bedroom of the residence.
There was no initial determination on what caused the fire. Sheriff’s Lt. J.D. Shelton was to continue investigating the cause this morning.
