The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has filed Murder and other charges on a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Laurens County businessman yesterday.
An incident report notes that a Waterloo woman called Greenwood County Dispatch, who then notified Laurens County about a fatal shooting at 1:48 yesterday morning. The caller indicated she would be at a convenience store in Greenwood County. Meanwhile, deputies also responded to 67 Mercy Lane,Waterloo, where they noticed the victim’s vehicle was gone, but he was found inside the house with a gunshot to the head. 65-year-old Bill Ardiss of67 Mercy Lane,Waterloo died from one shotgun blast to his head, according to Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols. Authorities searched for a suspect through the day, receiving reports he had been spotted in Greenwood County. Yesterday afternoon, the suspect turned himself in to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. He is identified as 41-year-old Phillip Heath Hollingsworth who had been staying at67 Mercy Lane, but had previous addresses on Burnett Road, Greenwood and prior to that at a Batesburg address. Hollingsworth was transferred to the Laurens County Detention Center and charged with Murder, Kidnapping, Grand Larceny, and two counts of Possession of a Weapon During Commission of a Violent Crime.
In addition to being charged with the fatal shooting of Bill Ardiss, Hollingsworth is also charged with Kidnapping a young woman who also lived at67 Mercy Lane,Waterloo, and he was charged with stealing Ardiss’ 2002 Ford F-150 pickup.
The woman Phillip Hollingsworth is accused of kidnapping from Mercy Lane was also being held in the Johnson Detention Center this morning. 24-year-old Shayla Jordan Gaines of67 Mercy Lane was being held for a Warrant.
