Retiring Councilman Recognized

At last night’s meeting of Laurens City Council, the departure of one council member was noted when Mayor Sharon Brownlee awarded……

“…an outstanding service award presented to Councilman Frank Richardson in recognition of your commitment to the City of Laurens and its constituents while serving on City Council.

Mr. Richardson expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving on council and told those in attendance “I think we got a lot of work done.”

After the meeting we asked departing Councilman Richardson about that work that had been done.  We asked what he was most proud of.

Downtown.  Just look at downtown,  Used to be a one horse wagon town… it’s beautiful.  Beautiful downtown.

Frank Richardson also championed development of recreational opportunities in the city while serving on Laurens City Council for the past 13 years.

Immediately after the presentation to Council Richardson a swearing-in ceremony was held.  City Attorney Tommy Thompson presented the oath of office to two council members who won re-election earlier this month and one new member of council who replaces the retiring Frank Richardson.

Council members Richard Griffin and Marian Miller took the oath to begin another term on council and newly elected council member Sara Latimore took the oath for the first time.
