A Greenwood woman was killed instantly when the pickup in which she was a passenger collided with a tractor-trailer rig in Laurens County around 2:20 to 2:30 yesterday afternoon. The fatal wreck reportedly happened at the intersection of Highways 56 and 560 in the Belfast community.
Chief Deputy Coroner Judy Cheek identified the victim as 53-year-old Barbara Aldercht of 130 Edinborough Circle, Apartment 30,Greenwood. Cheek said Ms. Aldercht was killed instantly of blunt force trauma to her head and chest in the wreck.
She was a passenger in a Ford F-250 pickup. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl Tony Keller states that vehicle was being driven by 53-year-old Michael Carso of Charlotte,North Carolina. He was flowed to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Their pickup reportedly collided with a 2004 Mack Tractor-Trailer rig being driven by 39-year-old Wildrick Cook of Newberry, who was not injured in the wreck. Both drivers reportedly were wearing their seat belts, according to Lance Cpl Keller.
Reports from the scene indicated the two vehicles collided in the intersection; however, the Highway Patrol was withholding details on precisely what happened pending investigation of the MAIT team.
