Slips Away, then Captured

   While on routine patrol late yesterday morning, Laurens Police Lt. Heath Copeland reported spotting a man with outstanding warrants at a store on South Harper Street at Farley Avenue. He stopped and advised the man he was under arrest, but the man reportedly resisted. The Officer reportedly avoided a punch swung at him and took the man to the ground. He then came out of his jacked and shirt and began to run away. Lt. Copeland reported chasing the man down East Farley. The subject ran into woods and under the railroad overpass. The officer reportedly caught him as he crossed the railroad tracks under East Farley. 34-year-old Johnny Thomas Thompson of 313 Jersey Street was charged with Resisting Arrest. In addition, two Bench Warrants were served regarding previous cases of Disregarding a Stop Sign and Driving under Suspension.
