The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an Alltel Wireless telephone tower on Wasson Gin Road in the Hickory Tavern community at 10:12 yesterday morning. Sometime since Monday afternoon, someone had cut the perimeter fence around the tower and entered the area, where they cut and removed copper wiring that ran from a control box to the tower. They also took a copper bus bar that was used to connect all the wiring. Several other wires related to another wireless provider. An estimated $2,000 worth of copper was reported missing and $500 in damage was noted from the entry.
