Sentencing in General Sessions Court

   ADecember term of Laurens County General Sessions Criminal Court began yesterday in County Court facilities at Hillcrest Square. In opening day action, a Gray Court man was sentenced to five years incarceration after entering guilty pleas on multiple charges of providing obscene materials to a minor and one charge of solicitation. 26-year-old Joshua Alan Payne of 62 Knight Road,Gray Court pled to Four Counts of Disseminating Obscene Material to a Minor of Twelve Years of Age or Younger, and to One Count of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor. He was sentenced to Five Years on each of the five charges, with all sentences to be served concurrently.  Joshua Payne was placed in the Laurens County Detention Center after his court appearance, pending transfer to the state department of corrections.






  The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office yesterday served two bench warrants on an UpperLaurensCountyresident, who was ordered placed in detention in General Sessions Court bench warrants issued on November 7th.  43-year-old Steven Farrell “Buck” McElrath of 485 Allen Bridge Road, Fountain Inn was served with two Bench Warrants that state he failed to appear in General Sessions Court November 2nd. One notes he is facing a charge of Drug Manufacture, the second deals with a charge that he was in unauthorized Possession of a Controlled Substance. Buck McElrath was being held in theJohnsonDetentionCenter pending an appearance in court. He was placed in theJohnsonDetentionCenter yesterday as another term ofGeneral Sessions Court began.
