CHS: The Clinton varsity teams traveled to Newberry last Friday night in varsity action:

  • Girls: CHS 42 – Newberry 27… In the first game of the evening the Lady Red Devils took a 42 – 27 win over Newberry which means they swept the two-game series with the Bulldogs this season… The Lady Red Devils lead 20-13 at the half…  Clinton’s defense stepped up big in the final quarter allowing the Lady Bulldogs just 5 points while they scored 14… Clinton had two players scoring in double digits… They were Noelia Leake with 12 and Ellie Tallman with 10… Others scoring for Clinton were: Trevoria Dendy and Indya Kinard with 7 points each, Queena  Cunningham-4 and Bredashia Walls-2
  • Boys: Newberry 93-Clinton 56… For the second time this week Clinton would face the #1 ranked AA boys team in the form of the Newberry Bulldogs… Unfortunately Clinton lost again this time by a score of 93-56… The Red Devils led 16-13 at the end of the 1st quarter but the Bulldogs took advantage of Clinton turnovers and led by 26 points at the half…  Clinton also had trouble from the free-throw line while Newberry did not… Tay Cook was the only Red Devil in double digits with 23 points… Nike Davis had 9, Ian Kinard 6, Shakiyl Smiley & Jacob Adams 5, Montez Boyd 4 while Kenyon Brown & RJ Robinson had 2.  LDHS: The Laurens Raiders travel to Westside Rams in region action last Friday night:

  • Girls: Westside 49 – Laurens 39… The Lady Raiders started out the evening with a loss as Westside took a 49-39 win… The lady Raiders are struggling to find offenses consistency from game to game and trailed by 14 going into the final period of play… They were able to get Westside’s lead down to 6 points but could get no closer… Mary Anna Moore led the Lady Raiders with 21 points… Maleaka Neal added 10 while Shekiya Burnside & Shaniqua Brown each added 4 points.
  • Boys: Laurens 54 – Westside 45… In the second game at Westside, the Laurens boys took a 54-45 win over the Rams… The Raiders outscored the Rams in every quarter of play but the Rams continued to play and kept the game close… Westside got to within 1 point in the final quarter of play but Laurens countered taking the win… This gives Laurens a 7 game winning streak.. Chrishawn Guest had 20 points to lead the Raiders and Tyrez Young also scored in double-digits with 10 points.. Michael Boyce had 9, Dra Cunningham 8, Khalid Irby 6 and Desmond Beasley-Jones 1.. Laurens Academy: The Crusaders traveled to Anderson Christian last Friday.

  • Girls: Anderson 64 – L.A. 13
  • Boys: L.A. 83 – Anderson 56…. The Crusaders are now 8-0 on the season.

FYI / Community Interest:

  • The Clinton YMCA has extended registration for youth basketball and cheerleading to Thursday December 20th.. Basketball is open to youth ages 5-12. Cheerleading is open to those in grades K5-6th. The cost is $40 for Y members and $55 for non-members. For more information call the Clinton YMCA at 833-1555. Financial assistance is available.
  • There will be a Raider Basketball Kid’s Camp December 27th & 28th at the Laurens High Gym. The camp will be teaching many fundamental basketball skills.  We will be giving out individual prizes for Hot Shot, Knockout and Speed Dribbling Champions. We will also have guest speakers each day. This camp will be a great opportunity for young players to work on their basketball skills. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. The camp hours will be 9am – noon and is open to youth 5-13.. The cost is $30 if you register by Friday December 21st and $35 after that date. Discounts are available for siblings.
