Three suspects from the Upstate were arrested in Laurens County this past December 3rd following a police chase from Spartanburg County into Laurens County. It all began with the alleged theft of a pickup from a car lot on Wade Hampton Blvd, Greer. The chase reportedly involved multiple twists and turns on the north side of Laurens, including damage to vehicles. Yesterday, the alleged driver in that pickup was returned to Laurens County and was charged with multiple counts of Attempted Murder.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office served warrants charging 23-year-old Woodrow Franklin Byars of 319 Bulls Road, Taylors with Six Counts of Attempted Murder and with Two Counts of Malicious Damage.
Warrants allege that on December 3rd Woodrow F. Byars attempted murder by using his vehicle to ram into vehicles occupied by two Laurens County Deputy Sheriffs and a Wal-Mart Distribution Asset Protection agent at two different locations. The attempted assaults by vehicle allegedly occurred at 468 Lee Carey Road and 90 Linda Drive, Laurens. Willful and malicious damage on two Sheriff’s Patrol cars allegedly ran between $2,000 and $10,000 in damages.
Bond was denied on the charges during arraignment yesterday. Woodrow Franklin Byars of Taylors remained in theJohnsonDetentionCenterthis morning.
