Woman & Man Charged with Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor

Laurens City Police yesterday arrested two people on charges of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor for alleged actions over this past weekend. 35-year-old Tabitha Amy Knapp of Lot 7 at 200 Hardin Road, Laurens was charged with Two Counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and One Count of Unlawful Neglect of a Child. 30-year-old Anthony Clay Smith Jr. of 53 Gopher Trail, Laurens was charged with One Count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

   Detective Walter Bentley states that between January 12th and 13th Amy Knapp contributed to the delinquency of a minor by allowing a 15-year-old minor to use marijuana and drink alcohol in her presence at her home on Hardin Road. She also allegedly allowed a 16-year-old minor to use marijuana, alcohol and a controlled substance in her presence at her home this past weekend. In a third warrant, charging Unlawful Neglect of a Child, Detective Bentley alleges that Amy Knapp placed her 11-year-old and 15-year-old children in unreasonable risk of harm by allowing them to be in continued presence of the use of marijuana, alcohol and other controlled substances.

   30-year-old Clay Smith was charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, also between January 12th and 13th, by allegedly purchasing alcohol for a 15-year-old and allowing her to use it in his presence on Hardin Road.

  Both Ms. Knapp and Mr. Smith were being held in the Johnson Detention Center overnight, pending arraignment on the charges today.
