An inmate with the South Carolina Department of Corrections was placed in the Laurens County Detention Center yesterday, with the county facility receiving Temporary Custody as Laurens County served the inmate with charges from a crime three years ago in Laurens. 52-year-old Baby Ray Padgett of 467 Harmon Quarters Road, Prosperity was charged with Carjacking along with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. In warrants served yesterday, Lt. Keith McIntosh states that on January 20, 2010 the defendant took a car from a Laurens resident by force. The victim was in the 1991 Buick LeSabre at the time of the theft. Baby Ray Padgett allegedly assaulted the victim, a 94-year-old man, by striking him in the face and blacking his eye.
Baby Ray Padgett remained in the Johnson Detention Center earlier today, pending arraignment on the new charges.
