Deputy Devin Hodges of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was traveling on Fleming Street at 10:04 last night when be noticed a gray truck where the license plate numbers had been obliterated so that he could not read the tag. He made a traffic stop at the McDonald’s and reportedly observed the smell of marijuana from the vehicle. Further discussions led to the discovery of a bag of green leafy substance that tested positive as marijuana. A 45-year-old Clinton man was arrested and placed in the Johnson Detention Center on a Simple Possession of Marijuana charge.
In a second Simple Possession of Marijuana case from last night, around 11 pm a South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper arrested a 21-year-old Walterboro man on Interstate 385 on the same charge.
Both men were being held overnight in the Johnson Detention Center.
