Arrest Cites Two Undercover Operations

   Laurens City Police yesterday arrested a city resident in connection with two alleged undercover drug operations. 43-year-old James Albert Byrd III of 128 Oakland Heights, Laurens was charged with Two Counts, Distribution of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance and one charge of Distribution in Proximity of a Day Care.

Detective Leann Riggott states that on November 13th, 2012 the defendant intentionally and knowingly distributed a quantity of a schedule IV controlled substance to a confidential informant who was working in conjunction with the Laurens City Police Department. This incident allegedly occurred at 5 Riverside Street in Laurens.

Detective Riggott further alleges that on December 10th 2012 James Albert Byrd did intentionally and knowingly distribute a quantity of a schedule IV controlled substance to a confidential informant working in an undercover capacity with Laurens City Police. This incident allegedly occurred at 128 Oakland Heights in Laurens. This second alleged undercover transaction allegedly occurred within a half mile of the Laurens YMCA, which is a Day Care Facility. Bonds on the charges were set totaling $80,000. James Albert Byrd III remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning.
