Superintendent David O’Shields Gets Good Performance Review

Strong approval of David O’Shields performance and commitment to the children of School District 56 was reported, following an annual review of performance for the Superintendent of Schools held in late January.  In a statement released yesterday, District 56 Board Chairman James Barton said O’Shield’s first annual performance review held in executive session January 28th focused on the goals mutually agreed upon between the Superintendent and the Board. These goals included improving student achievement, working with staff to prepare a five-year strategic plan to incorporate the common core standards and finalizing capital improvements associated with the District’s bond referendum.

Barton noted the School Board publicly expressed its strong approval of Dr. O’Shields’s performance and his commitment to the children in the District, as well as to our staff and the community at large.  The Board in particular commends Dr. O’Shields for his efforts to improve student achievement at all levels and align our curriculum with state and core common standards.  Yesterday’s statement notes Dr. O’Shields also has worked very effectively this past year with all stakeholders to ensure that the District’s budget priorities at all levels remain focused on promoting student achievement. The report notes that Dr. O’Shields is a long-time member of our community and his relationships with teachers, parents, government leaders, and businesses are invaluable to our collective efforts to ensure that all students in our school system have top-quality educational opportunities.

In light of Dr. O’Shields’s commendable performance evaluation, the Board has acted to extend his contract for two additional years.  Additionally, in acknowledgment of his continued service and dedication to our students and community, the Board provided Dr. O’Shields with a two percent salary increase, which is the same increase approved for District 56 certified teachers this school year.

James Barton stated the Board is thrilled with the leadership that Dr. O’Shields continues to provide, commends him for his tireless dedication to our students and community, and looks forward to working with him for many years to come.
