The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce 1st Quarterly County-wide Clean-up of the year is just over a week away, set for Saturday, March 9th.
The Quarterly litter removal events are one of four segments of the Chamber’s Beautification program. Another is education, helping us learn behavioral patterns that prevent litter in the first place, and helping us become more aware of our environment.
The Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center has an event coming up in May with a goal of reaching every third-grade student in the county. Joe Adair Director Debbie Bishop was at the Laurens Rotary luncheon yesterday, telling about the Joe Adair Center’s ‘TEAM ECOLOGY” program. She said that during the week of May 27th to 31st, some 660 third grade students will be brought to the center for one day of activities. They range from programs teaching composting, storm water pollution issues, a water lab and a nature hike. In fact, 9 different “stations” will focus on various issues of maintaining a healthy ecology.
While that’s coming up in May, Debbie Bishop also noted the Scout Creek Biatholon that’s coming up April 27th. Participants can register on-line at active dot com.
