Laurens Mayor Sharon Brownlee yesterday announced that Clinton native Justin Smith has joined the Laurens Recreation Department, replacing Darnel Suber, who recently departed to pursue a manufacturing position. The Mayor wished Suber well with his career move, noting he’ll continue to work as a volunteer coach for City Recreation.
Justin Smith is from Clinton, a Graduate of the Citadel with a degree in Recreation.
He comes to Laurens Recreation from the Greenwood County Parks and Recreation Department as their Director of the Ninety Six Recreation program. Mayor Brownlee said Justin Smith will be a huge asset to Recreation Director Jason Pridgen and the city. He is an avid sports figure that played baseball professionally shortly after college “and possesses a lot of skills and knowledge that will be highly beneficial to our recreational programs.”
The Mayor said she’s very excited to bring Justin into this position, saying “He has all it takes to be an asset from day one to all our children and families that participate in the City recreational programs and to the entire Laurens Community.” She asked everyone to join her in making Justin feel very welcome to Laurens.
