Clinton 911 Call Leads to Multiple Drug Charges Served

Clinton Public Safety yesterday charged a local man with three counts of Distribution of Crack Cocaine over the past year, after initially arresting him on a charge of Giving False Information to Police. Officer Phillip Wicker was dispatched to Colony Square Apartments at 2:11 yesterday morning where he observed a 19-year-old female who was visibly upset and holding ice on her left shoulder. She would not speak of the problem, however. Officers talked with a man at the location who reportedly identified himself with an incorrect first name. After confirming his correct identity, 35-year-old Rechell Michael Cheeks of 105 North Bell Street, Clinton was charged with Giving False Information to Police and placed in Clinton City Jail. Later in the morning, he was also charged with one count of 2nd Offense Distribution and two charges of 3rd Offense, Distribution of Crack Cocaine.

  In warrants served yesterday, Detective Tyrone Goggins states that Rechell Cheeks sold a quantity of crack cocaine to a confidential informant near a residence at 107 North Bell Street, Clinton on August 21st, 2012. This was within a half mile of Oak Street Park and Bell Street Middle School. Detective Goggins alleges in another warrant that also on August 21st last year Rechell Michael Cheeks sold a quantity of crack cocaine to a confidential informant working in an undercover capacity on North Bell Street, less than a half mile from Bell Street Middle School. Detective Tyrone Goggins also alleges that Rechell Cheeks sold a quantity of crack cocaine to a confidential informant working in an undercover capacity on North Bell Street March 29th, 2012, also within a half mile of Bell Street Middle School. Bonds were set yesterday totaling $100,000 on the six charges. Rechell Michael Cheeks remained in the Johnson Detention Center earlier today.
