County Council Approves Design Work for Admin Office with Split Vote

Laurens County Council gave a unanimous approval to adopt April as Fair Housing Month in Laurens County. The vote Tuesday night is required in anticipation of applying for a Community Development Block Grant.

Another unanimous vote was to approve appointees to the Laurens County Accommodation Tax Commission.  The appointees were presented by Andy Howard, Director of Laurens County Parks Recreation and Tourism.

They are Doug Hendricks of Steamers Café, Mark Long of Hickory Hills Barbecue, Sherry Anders of Comfort Inn Suites, Sam Pike of Hampton Inn, Jamie Adair of the Arts commission, Nancy Griffith- in the History Author category and Bill Wilson at large.

State Law requires that the council appoint such a committee to review applications and to make recommendations to council for the expenditure of a portion of the Accommodations Tax for the promotion of tourism.

In a third, split vote this week, County Council gave approval to pay a six thousand dollar fee for additional design work on the proposed new County Administrative Offices at Hillcrest Square. Architect Dennis Ashley is to do the work.
