Lower Fatalities for Laurens County

2013 is off to a better start for highway fatalities here in Laurens County. With three months now complete, the number of fatalities on roadways in the county was just one, as of midnight Sunday Night, March 31st. That compares with four fatalities in the first three months of 2012. Last year was particularly bad for fatalities here in Laurens County. The previous two years, 2010 and 2011, only had one fatality in the first three months.

 

Abbeville County is off to a bad start for 2013. After having no highway fatalities for the first three months of the previous three years, Abbeville County posted three fatalities for the first quarter of 2013.

 

Spartanburg, Saluda and Union Counties are the same after the first quarter of 2013 as they were this time in 2012, Spartanburg has nine fatalities, Saluda has one and Union still has no fatalities for the year, just as last year at this time.

 

Newberry has a big improvement for the first three months of 2013. It is down from 3 at this time last year to just one fatality so far this year.GreenwoodCountyis down slightly, from three last year to two fatalities so far in 2013.AndersonCountywas down from 10 in 2012 to 6 in 2013,  while Greenville County is down from 16 to 11.

Statewide, 151 people have died on South Carolina Highways in the first three months. That’s down from 192 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. The 151 fatalities through midnight this past Sunday night include 19 pedestrians, 17 motorcyclists and 2 bicyclists.
