The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Budget Lodge on US 221 North at 10:41 yesterday morning on a stolen vehicle report. A 21-year-old Greenville woman indicated a rental vehicle she had was taken while she was sleeping, between midnight and 10:30 yesterday morning. She named a Clinton man as a suspect in the missing vehicle, saying he had not been staying in the room, but apparently came in and got her keys. Sgt. Carter contacted the man, who said he had permission to drive the car and was to return it in time for the woman to get to work later in the day yesterday. He was told to bring it back now. The deputy moved his vehicle out of sign and waited, then was notified the Clinton man was back with the car. The subject gave the woman the car keys and money to replace the gasoline he had used. She declined to prosecute.
