Laurens Police were dispatched to North Harper Street at 5:40 yesterday afternoon on a report of an attempted theft. A business woman told Lt. Heath Copeland that a man had taken some of her metal benches she had set on the side of her shop to sell. She reportedly told the man the benches were not scrap metal, and he had thrown them back to the on the side of the building, then walked away down Gordon Street. The subject was identified as a while male about 6 feet tall with a bald head and wearing a blue shirt. The proprietor noted that while she got her items back, she was concerned that someone would grab the items in broad daylight. Officers were unable to locate the subject during a search of the area.
