Laurens County Council this week unanimously approved a $12,000 allocation from the economic development fund to assist in providing the Laurens County Airport with a conference room and a new sign. Council Chairman, Jim Coleman was enthusiastic about improvement to the airport, saying “Sometimes the airport is the first impression people get of the county and this will be good for economic development.”
Another unanimous vote on first reading Tuesday night was for the approval of Ordinance #752, which transfers a fee-in-lieu of tax arrangement. County Attorney Sandy Cruickshanks informed council that this transfer is in regard to Avery Dennison selling two business units to CCL Industries. He assured council that there would be no change in the amount and that the possibility exists of new investment in the county by this company.
Council was also advised that Value Press plans an expansion to their facility in the Hunter Park Industrial Park.
