Woman Allegedly Assaulted After Coming Home from Church

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence outside Laurens at 1:59  yesterday afternoon on a domestic assault report. A woman said she had come home early from church and could tell her husband had been drinking. She reported finding a nearly empty bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 wine in her husband’s car and questioned him about it. He reportedly got upset and started pushing her and hitting her in the head. She reportedly hit him on the arm with the bottle trying to get him off her, but he continued to assault her. She indicated he grabbed a cookie jar off the counter and threw it at her, then went outside. She locked the door to keep him out and called for help. Lt. Robbie Haupfear arrived and reportedly found the husband outside in his truck. 48-year-old Robert Richardson of 90 Rocky Springs Church Road, Laurens was arrested and taken to the Johnson Detention Center, to be charged with Criminal Domestic Violence. He remained in custody overnight.
