Clinton Begins Hydrant Flushing

The City of Clinton Department of Public Safety is testing fire hydrants throughout the city over the next three weeks. The annual testing program takes a few weeks to complete each year and involves testing the pressure and flow of water from each hydrant. Testing is required by insurance raters in order for Clinton to maintain its Class 4 rating inside the city limits; it also gives firefighters assurance they’ll have water needed for fighting fires.  The testing does not disrupt household and business routines, but can cause  a brief surge of cloudy water. If this occurs, open a faucet and allow the water to run until it clears.

Businesses that depend on water clarity can call the Department of Public Safety at 833-7512 to make sure the testing does not interfere with their operations. For a schedule of testing dates and areas, please visit the City of Clinton’s website at www.cityofclintonsc.com.
