Two men were arrested yesterday after a car chase in Laurens that was followed by a foot chase. One was in jail overnight, the other hospitalized after reportedly breaking his ankle while reportedly running from police.
Lt. Heath Copeland reported he was on patrol at 12:48 yesterday afternoon and observed a small vehicle go through the intersection of West Farley Avenue and Chestnut Street. He reportedly recognized a passenger, Travours Grant, who was wanted for a warrant. As Lt. Copeland was moving to make a traffic stop, the vehicle reportedly pulled into Dr. Brown’s office and stopped. The officer pulled his tazer and approached the vehicle, giving both subjects inside instructions, and walked to the passenger side to arrest Mr. Grant. The vehicle then reportedly drove off onto Cummings Street. Lt. Copeland pursued the car as it made various turns onto Furman then south on Chestnut. It took Satterwhite Road then onto Highway 127, then turned onto Powers road, crossed South Harper Extension onto Wynette Street. The vehicle continued on Wynette until it turned into a private drive back toward a sewer line. Both occupants bailed out of the car and ran as the car continued rolling until it struck a sign warning of a gas line and a tree.
Lt. Copeland reportedly located Mr. Grant in the river bed and took him under arrest, turning him over to a County Deputy for transport to the Johnson Detention Center. Other officers assisted in the search for the driver, identified as Cedric Bernard Bluford.
During that search, he was heard calling for help, having apparently broken his ankle. He was also located in the river bed. After checking for weapons, he was helped from the river and turned over to EMS. They transported him to the Laurens County Hospital for treatment of his ankle. Lt. Copeland notes that Bluford also had a warrant for his arrest.
The Highway Patrol was called to investigate the collision of the car.
22-year-old Cedric Bernard Bluford of 32 Raintree Drive, Laurens was initially charged with 2nd Offense Driving under Suspension and for Failure to Stop for Blue Lights. Pending his booking after release from the hospital, Bluford is to also be served with a warrant charging Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature.
The passenger, 22-year-old Travours Terrell Grant of 293 Cheeks Circle, Gray Court, was charged with Resisting Arrest and was served with a warrant charging him with Criminal Domestic Violence. He is accused of assaulting his child’s mother near her residence on Hardin Road on April 26th. Travours Grant was being held overnight, pending arraignment on the charge today.
