An organizational meeting was held yesterday at the Chamber of Commerce for “Operation Wattsville.” This cooperate between the Sheriff’s Office, local churches, Ford school and others in the community is an attempt to bring the community together June 8th for a day of cleaning up the community, followed by a celebration that evening. A big Block Party is planned, along with an outdoor movie showing that evening in the ball field behind Lucas Avenue Baptist. Sheriff Ricky Chastain thanked all who were able to make it to the planning meeting for Operation Wattsville. Later, he said “This coalition of citizens, churches, businesses, civic organizations and governmental agencies brings excitement thinking of what can be accomplished for our community.”
For the benefit of interested citizens who could not make it, Chastain recapped “Our objective of ‘Operation Wattsville’ has already begun. Flyers and other information relating to our June 8th Clean-up and Community “Block Party” have already been disseminated throughout the community and work has already been seen in removing debris and trash.” The Sheriff outlined actions agreed on for the next few weeks by the members of the coalition present yesterday. They include participation by a wide range of local entities.
