Uncle Sam Is Watching SC

The Justice Department announced yesterday that it will monitor elections today in three towns in Mississippi, and in the special congressional election today in Charleston County, South Carolina. That’s where former Governor Mark Sanford is facing off against Elizabeth Colbert Bush.  Mrs. Bush is the Democratic Party’s nominee for the Congressional Post thought to be a Republican stronghold.

The Justice Department said it’s on hand to ensure compliance with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits discrimination in the election process on the basis of race, color or membership in a minority language group.
