Local:

  • Laurens Academy: Recently Laurens Academy held their Sports Award Ceremony… The MVP in each of the sports were: Football Defensive- Jonathan Maddox, Offensive- Calvin Mitchell; Volleyball Offensive – Kayla Mitchell, Defensive – Autumn Greene; Girls Basketball Defensive – Elizabeth Price, Offensive – Kaitlyn Muir; Boys Basketball Offensive – Chase Brewington, Defensive – Billy Rockefeller; Golf –  Will Burroughs; Baseball Offensive – Tanner Goff, Defensive – Caleb Sims and Softball – Kaitlyn Muir… Now each sport had awards other than the MVP awards… Click on the following to see the entire list of award winners: 2013 Laurens Academy Sports Awards
  • B&W Fence 15 – Exchange Club 5… last night we broadcast a Dixie Boys game on Real radio 860 WLBG and in that game B&W Fence came back to take a 15-5 win over the Exchange Club… Now if you are interested in a box score and statistics on the game, click on the following link: 2013-6-4_Exch-Club__B-W-Fence…. College Notes:

  • Softball CWS… Last night the Oklahoma Sooners won the NCAA Softball CWS as they defeated the Volunteers of Tennessee 4-0.. The Sooners took the best of 3 series in 2 straight games…. The Sooners end the season with a 57-4 record… The Sooners also won the championship back in 2000 and finished runner-up to Alabama last season.

Braves 5 – Pirates 4 (10)… The Braves took a 5-4 win in 10 innings last night over the Pittsburg Pirates down at the Ted… The Braves trailed early in the game but tied it at 4 all in the 6th… The Braves took the win on a walk-off double by Andrelton Simmons scoring Dan Uggla… BJ Upton had a 2-run homer for the Braves in the 6th inning to tie the game for the Braves… The Braves finish their current series with the current series with the Pirates today 12:10 pm and then will hit the road for a road trip to the west coast.

Greenville Drive 6 – Charleston 2… The Drive started a road trip down to the South Carolina cost last night with a 6-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs… The Drive scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and then held the RiverDogs to just 4 hits in route to the win… They did it with 10 hits 5 of which were doubles.

  • Dixie Youth Baseball Broadcast:  Real Radio 860 WLBG will be brining you two Dixie Youth Baseball games in the next few days… On Thursday the 6th we will feature the last game of the regular season of Dixie Boys between the Exchange Club and Stroble Mini Storage… First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm so join me just about that time.

  • Girls Basketball Camp and Volleyball Camp at the Clinton YMCA…  Clinton High School Coach Joe Webb will be conducting a girl’s basketball camp at the Clinton YMCA for girls 6-12 June 10th – 13th…  On those same dates Coach Cindy Kink will be conducting a girl’s volleyball camp for girls of all ages…   Information about times and costs are can be found in a posting in Featured Sports section at wlbg.com … Registration deadline is Friday June 7th at 5:00 pm for both of these camps so don’t delay… For more information contact the Clinton YMCA at 864-833-1555.
  • Clinton YMCA Sports Camps and Swimming Lessons… Also, be sure to check the Featured Sports section at for a list of all sports camps and swimming lesson schedules at wlbg.com.
  • Laurens YMCA Tennis and Golf Camps… The Laurens YMCA will be holding a tennis camp for ages 6-14 June 10-12.. They will be divided according to experience… Also June 11-13 there will be a golf camp at lakeside Country Club… The camp is for youth ages 7-15… The deadline to register for both these camps is June 9… For more information see the posting in the Featured Sports section at wlbg.com or call the Y at 984-2621

And finally, its only 86  days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.
