Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Friday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… The Blue Hose football schedule this year includes 6 home games… The first is Sept. 7th as they host Brevard… The other home games are against Charlotte, VMI, Point University, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb…. Local:

  • Dixie Boys: Exchange Club 6 – Stroble Mini storage 4…. College Baseball Notes:

  • South Carolina @ North Carolina… The Gamecocks will make their 11th appearance in a NCAA Super Regional in 14 years starting today as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on the #1 seeded Tar Heels of North Carolina… The Gamecocks enter the series 42-18 on the season while the Tar Heels are 55-9…. The Gamecocks really have their work cut out for them if they want to make it back to Omaha for the 4th year in a row… Today’s game has a first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm (weather permitting) and will be on ESPN2… Tomorrow’s game is scheduled to start at noon and will be on ESPN… It is a best of 3 series and the “if needed game” is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday and will also be carried on ESPN… Now if you are not around a TV at that time, I will remind you that Sports Radio 1410 WPCC… If you want more information about the Gamecocks going into this series click on the following link: Gamecock Information… Click on the following link for North Carolina Baseball Information: Tar Heel Information.

Braves:

  • Dodgers 5 – Braves 0…. The Braves started a road trip out on the left coast last night with their first stop being in L.A. to take on the Dodgers…  The game was 1-0 Dodgers going into the bottom of the 8th when the Dodgers added 4 more to make the final 5-0.. Jason Hayward went 2-4 to be the only Brave with more than 1 hit.

Greenville Drive:

  • The Drive were washed out down on the coast of South Carolina last night… They return home to Flour Field today to finish a suspended home today to finish a suspended game with Hickory at 5:00 pm and then the regularly scheduled game after that.

NBA

  • San Antonio 92 – Miami 88… In game one of the NBA finals last night, the Spurs took a 92-88 win over the Heat in Miami … The Heat led most of the way but too many turnovers and cold shooting doomed them in the 4th period… Second game will be in Miami on Sunday

NFL: Deacon Jones

  • Some of the younger folks in the audience will not recognize the name Deacon Jones but some of the older crown will remember his as the all-everything defensive end who anchored one end of the Fearsome Foursome of the L.A. Rams died Monday at the age of 74… His NFL career went from 1961 to 1974 and he was inducted Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980… He is considered by many to be the greatest defensive end in the modern football era… The NFL did not start keeping the statistics on sack until 1982 but team stats show he had 173½ during a period when pro football was much more run oriented… Most recently, Jones was the CEO of his own foundation, which he began in 1997. He also made several trips to visit troops on active duty in the Middle East.

Community Interest:

  • Girls Basketball Camp and Volleyball Camp at the Clinton YMCA…  Clinton High School Coach Joe Webb will be conducting a girl’s basketball camp at the Clinton YMCA for girls 6-12 June 10th – 13th…  On those same dates Coach Cindy Kink will be conducting a girl’s volleyball camp for girls of all ages…   Information about times and costs are can be found in a posting in Featured Sports section at wlbg.com … Registration deadline is Friday June 7th at 5:00 pm for both of these camps so don’t delay… For more information contact the Clinton YMCA at 864-833-1555.

  • Laurens YMCA Tennis and Golf Camps… The Laurens YMCA will be holding a tennis camp for ages 6-14 June 10-12.. They will be divided according to experience… Also June 11-13 there will be a golf camp at lakeside Country Club… The camp is for youth ages 7-15… The deadline to register for both these camps is June 9… For more information see the posting in the Featured Sports section at wlbg.com or call the Y at 984-2621

And finally, its only 84 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.
