A report of a bomb in a mailbox dispatched Laurens County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Wood to Neely Ferry Road at 7:54 yesterday morning. A man had checked his mailbox at 7:45 yesterday morning and discovered some type of incendiary device. Lt. Jawarski Shelton arrived on the scene to conduct the investigation. He contacted a SLED Bomb unit, which came to the scene and safely removed the device. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office closed Neely Ferry Road between Highway 252 andHood Creek Roaduntil the device was safely removed, rerouting traffic in the meantime as a safety precaution. There was fire damage noted to the mailbox but no indication the device had exploded.
Anyone with information about the device is asked to notify the Sheriff’s Office. You may also provide information without revealing your identity by calling Laurens County Crimestoppers at 68-CRIME. Rewards may be made to someone who provides information used in making an arrest in the case.
