Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 7-2-2013

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Tuesday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… PC Head Softball Coach Kama Tucker and her staff are again this summer offering an All Skills Camp for girls ages 10-18 years of age… The camp will feature two full days of instruction in hitting, defense and baserunning… The camp will be July 8th – 9th and is open for commuters or residents… Click on the following for more information about the camp: 2013 PC Softball Camp Information
Local:

  • The Laurens Little League 11-U All-Stars… I don’t have any details other than the final score as the local Laurens team faced off against Greenwood in the district championship last night up in Easley and that was Greenwood winning 7-2… If I get details today, I’ll update you tomorrow.

College Notes:

  • ACC Welcomes New Members… The ACC officially welcomed Pitt, Syracuse and Notre Dame to the conference in ceremonies yesterday in New York… Pitt and Syracuse will play full schedules in all sports starting the coming season and so will Notre Dame with the exception of football…. Louisville will be joining in 2014.

MLB:

  • The Braves had the night off last night and will start a series at home tonight against the Florida Marlins.
  • The Braves are currently in first place in the NL East with a 6 game lead over the 2nd place Washington Nationals.
  • The 84th MLB All-Star Game is 2 weeks from tonight and there is not much time left if you want to vote for your favorite baseball player… Voting ends on July 4th at 11:59 pm ET…  Click on the following link to vote for player(s) for the upcoming all-star game: MLB All-Star Voting Link
  • Yesterday the New York Yankees announced that  Alex Rodriguez has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment … Rodriguez is slated to start and play at least three innings at third base for the Charleston RiverDogs tonight down on the coast of SC… I bet the peanut, hotdog and beer vendors are smiling about that.

Greenville Drive: The Drive were scheduled to open a 3 game series last night in Lexington, KY against the Legends but Mother Nature said No as the game was postponed due to bad weather… The two teams will play a double header today – weather permitting.

PGA:

  • Greenville native Bill Haas won the AT&T National in Bethesda, MD Sunday by 3 strokes shooting a 12 under par 272… Haas entered the final round tied with 4 other players and shot a 66 to pull away from the field…. This was his 5th career victory and he is now 1 of only 4 players (Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose are the other 3) to win at least PGA Tour event in each of the last 4 years.

And finally, its only 59 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.
