Local:

  • Laurens Dixie Youth 11-12 All-Stars Fall: The Laurens Dixie Youth 11-12 All-star team was in action this weekend up in Iva… The first game on Friday was rained out and took place on Saturday… On Saturday they faced the host team Iva and though they competed hard, they fell 15-1… yesterday the team played Johnston in what turned out to be a pitcher’s duel… Laurens’ Ryan Campbell struck out 10 while walking only 1 but the Laurens offense had trouble getting on track as they fell 4-0… The Laurens Coaches commented that they had a great group of kids who played hard and they were extremely proud of them… They also wanted to thanks the parents and volunteers in the league.

Braves: The Braves were in Philadelphia over the weekend taking on the Phillies and the Braves continue to play below .500 ball on the road.

  • Friday: Phillies 5 – Braves 4… In Friday night’s game the Braves trailed 5-0 going into the 7th inning when they put 4 runs on the board but could get no closer as the Phillies took a 5-4 win…  The big hit for the Braves in the 7th inning was a 3 run homer by Dan Uggla his 15th homerun of the season… Unfortunately Atlanta starter Paul Maholm gave up a pair of homeruns and the Braves had an error that cost them a run.
  • Saturday: Braves 13 – Phillies 4… On Saturday the Braves rebounded taking a 13-4 win over the Phillies… The Braves offense exploded getting those 13 runs on 19 hits while 3 Braves pitchers gave up the 4 runs on 9 hits… Brian McCann led the Braves offense with 4 hits in 5 at-bats… Andrelton Simmons, Dan Uggla and Jason Heyward all had homers for the Braves.
  • Sunday: Phillies 7 – Braves 3… Yesterday the Braves and the Phillies both had 10 hits but the Phillies managed to get the clutch 2-out hits while the Braves scattered theirs as the Phillies took a 7-3 win… Brian McCann was the only Brave with more than one hit (3) and Chris Johnson did manage to make his one hit a solo homer in the 7th inning…. The Braves have three games left on this road trip and they will be in the Miami area taking on the Marlins with the first game tonight at 7:10 pm..

Greenville Drive: The Drive hosted the Savannah Sand Gnats this weekend:

  • Friday: Drive 8 – Sand Gnats 4… The Drive used a 4-run 6th inning to take an 8-4 win over the Gnats in Friday night’s game… The Drive had 14 hits and overcame 2 errors in the win…
  • Saturday Game 1: Drive 3 – Sand Gnats 1…. In game 1 on Saturday which was a makeup of Thursday night’s rained out game, the Drive made it 2 in-a-row as they took a 3-1 win over Savannah… Again good hitting and pitching was the key as the Drive got 9 hits while limiting the Gnats to just 3 hits.
  • Game 2: Sand Gnats 3 – Drive 0… In the regularly scheduled game on Saturday, the Sand Gnats took a 3-0 win assuring them they would not be swept in the 4 game series… It was somewhat of a pitcher’s duels as there were a total of 7 hits in the game with the Sand Gnats getting 4 of them.
  • Sunday: Drive 6 – Sand Gnats 4… The Drive used a 5-run 5th inning and shut-out pitching the rest of the way to take a 6-4 win over Savannah …  The Drive will have tonight off and start a weeklong road trip tomorrow with the first stop being in Charleston to take on the RiverDogs.
