Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 7-10-13

Local:

  • Clinton Dixie Youth Coach Pitch All-Star Team… Yesterday I mentioned to you that the Clinton Coach Pitch All-Star team played Monday but I did not have the results… Well now I do and I am happy to report that they won both games Monday night making them the only unbeaten team going into the finals last night… They first defeated Sumter 8-5 and then took a come from behind win over Maple Park in extra innings… They trailed 4-0 but managed to tie the game and then won it by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning… Last night Clinton played the Pineview Nationals needing only 1 win to clinch the state title… Clinton trailed 5-2 going into the last inning but rallied putting 4 runs on the board as they took a 6-5 win and the title… Clinton now heads to the Sectional Tournament in Rockwood, TN beginning July 26th. …. Congratulations to the team on going 9-0 so far in postseason play!

Braves:

  • Braves 6 – Marlins 4… The Braves made it 2 in-a-row last night as they defeated the Miami Marlins 6-4 down in Miami… The Braves got 7⅓ strong innings from Julio Teheran giving up 4 runs but only one of which was earned… The Braves offense pounded out 11 hits with Justin Upton going 3-5 with a double, a solo homerun and 2 RBIs.. His brother BJ also had 2 hits and an RBI as the Upton brothers appear to be coming out of a hitting slump they have been in… The Braves will try to sweep the Marlins in the final game of the current series today with first pitch scheduled for 12:40 pm.

Greenville Drive:

  • Drive 2 – RiverDogs 1… The Greenville Drive started a 3 game series down on the coast last night with the Charleston RiverDogs on a positive note as they took a 2-1 win… The Drive trailed 1-0 going into the 8th inning when Drive 2nd baseman Keaton Briscoe had a 2-run homer to give the Drive the lead… The Drive’s bullpen then held the RiverDogs the last 2 innings to take the win… Game 2 of the series is tonight down at Joe Riley Stadium at 7:05.

This & That:

  • MLB All-Star Roster: The 84th MLB All-Star game is Tuesday of next week at Citi Field in New York… The only Brave to make the roster thus far is Brave closer Craig Kimbrel… This marks the 3rd consecutive season that Kimbrel has made the team… Now I did say that he was the only Brave so far because there are still two spots open on the squads, one for the AL and one for the NL… Braves’ first baseman Freddie Freeman is one of 5 candidates for the fans to vote in on the NL roster… If you would like to vote for any candidate in the NL or AL use the following link: All-Star Game 2013 Final Vote… If you would like to see both the AL and NL starters and rosters as of today, click on the following: 2013 MLB All-Star Rosters
  • And finally, its only 51 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.
