Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 7-11-13

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Thursday and it’s brought to you by the Laurens County Speedway… And speaking of the LCS, let’s recap racing results from last Saturday night… In the Crates, it was Mother Nature taking the checkered flag early… In the Hobby, Mother nature again took the lead early and coasted to the win… In the Limited it was again Mother Nature… I guess by now you have figured ou that the rain we have been having caused cancellation of last Saturday night’s racing… But have no fear, weather permitting they will have racing this Saturday night at 8:00 with the gates opening at 6:00… Make plans to come out to the LCS where they do dirt right!
Local:

  • Laurens Little League 11-Year Old All-Star Team…  Want to take this opportunity to wish the Laurens Little League 11-year old team good luck as they start state championship play up in Easley tonight… They are scheduled to take on perennial power Northwood at 6:00 pm… It is a double elimination tournament and win or lose they will play tomorrow… Other teams in the tournament are Greenwood, Greenville and Irmo… I’ll try to have results for you in the morning.

Braves:

  • Marlins 6 – Braves 2… The Braves brought the brooms to the park in an effort to sweep the Marlins down in Miami yesterday afternoon but the marlins made sure they did not get them out of the equipment bag as the scored 4 runs of Brave starter Paul Maholm in the 1st inning then went on to take a 6-2 win over the Braves… A walk, 2 singles and a couple of doubles given up by Maholm led to those 4 runs in the 1st…  The Braves managed only 6 hits (3 or which were doubles) while the Marlins got 11 hits 3 of which were doubles and a triple also… The Braves return home to Turner Field tonight as they start a 4 game series with the Cincinnati Reds.
  • Freddie Freeman… A quick reminder that there is 1 spot left on the AL and NL All-Star Teams and that spot is to be filled by fan voting… The Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is leading the voting for that final spot on the NL All-Star Team but his lead has dwindled somewhat… If you would like to vote, click on the following link: All-Star Game 2013 Final Vote

Greenville Drive:

  • RiverDogs 3 – Drive 2 (10)… The Drive jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of 4 innings last night but could not hold the lead as the RiverDogs came back and took a 3-2 win in 10 innings down in Charleston last night… The RiverDogs tied the game at 2 all in the 7th on a wild pitch then scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10 inning on anther wild pitch… Drive DH David Chester had a solo homer in the 4th inning his 13th of the season… The Drive and RiverDogs will play the rubber game of the 3-game series tonight at 7:05.
