Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report: 7-12-13

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Friday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… PC Head Tennis Coaches Adam Herendeen and Catherine Dunagan will be having a tennis camp for youth 4-18 July 17th – 20th… From 8am to 8:45 it will be a special Quickstart Camp for youth 4-7 and from 9 – 11:30 the regular camp for youth 8-18… For more information on the camp, click on the following link: PC Tennis Camp Information
Local:

  • Laurens 10 – Northwood 3…. The Laurens Little League 11-year old All-Star team started play last night in the state championship tournament play up in Easley with a convincing 10-3 win over Northwood… Laurens went up 10-1 after 4 innings f play and were really never threatened…  Coach Jason Pridgen mentioned that Cody Paige and Ty Williams both drove in multiple RBIs…   He also stated that he was able to use 7 different pitchers in the win keeping all pitchers available for tonight’s contest…   Laurens will now advance to play region foe Greenwood tonight at 6:00 pm… Greenwood defeated Laurens twice in the region tournament so both teams know each other well and Laurens is primed to try to avenge those earlier loses… Win or lose they will be in action tomorrow… For a complete tournament bracket click on the following link: 2013 SC Little League 10-11 State Tournament Bracket

Braves:

  • Braves 6 – Reds 5… Yesterday afternoon it was announced that Braves first baseman Freddie had indeed won the fan voting for the last position on this year’s NL All-Star team… To celebrate, he went out and had 3 hits and 4 RBIs in the Braves 6-5 win over Cincinnati in Atlanta last night… The Braves jumped out to a 6-3 lead after 4 innings as the Reds scored single runs in the 5th and 8th inning to hold on for the win…. Justin Upton also had 3 hits and an RBI in the win and Time Hudson picked up the win and Craig Kimbrel the save… The Braves and the Reds finish the 4 game series tonight and this weekend in Atlanta.

Greenville Drive:

  • RiverDogs 3 – Drive 1… In the rubber game of the 3 game series in Charleston last night, the RiverDogs took a 3-1 win over the Greenville Drive to take the series 2 games to 1… Both teams had 6 hits the difference being that the RiverDogs got the clutch hit with runners in scoring position 3 times while the Drive could only do it once… The Drive go a little further down the coast to Savannah to start a 4 game series with the Sand Gnats tonight.

NASCAR Schedule:

  • Nationwide Series will be at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway tomorrow with the green flag is scheduled to drop at 3:30 and it can be seen on ABC.
  • Sprint Cup Series will also be New Hampshire on Sunday… They can be seen on TNT and they are scheduled to go pedal to the metal at 1:00.

This & That:

  • Football Watch List: Numerous Clemson and South Carolina football players have been named to various watch list for different awards… Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins of Clemson to the Maxwell Award for best college football player and Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney to the Bronko Nagurski Award for outstanding defensive player are just a few…..   • And finally, its only 50 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.

  • Tennis Camp… Clinton High School Coach Clovis Simmons will be conducting a tennis camp at the Clinton YMCA for youth 4 and up on different times July 22nd – 25th…  Information about times for the different age groups and costs are can be found in a posting in Featured Sports section at wlbg.com … Registration deadline is Friday July 19th at 5:00 pm for both of these camps so don’t delay… For more information contact the Clinton YMCA at 864-833-1555.

Laurens YMCA:

  • Soccer Camp… The Laurens YMCA will be holding a soccer camp for youth ages 7-16 July 16th – 18th… This camp will be conducted by the Y staff and guest … The deadline to register for is July 14th … For more information see the posting in the Featured Sports section at wlbg.com or call the Y at 984-2621….
