The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Carroll Drive outside Laurens at 1:28 yesterday afternoon after a woman had just returned home to find her back door was open. She had only been gone since noon. She said she first didn’t think too much about it because her grandson had been there, but after entering she found a mess inside a room. Drawers of two bedrooms had been opened and ruffled through and the bedspreads and pillows tossed from the beds. Her jewelry box had also been opened. She noticed a 24-kt gold herringbone necklace valued at $1,800 was missing.
At the same time, a juvenile male reported finding two unknown males standing on his uncle’s front porch nearby on Honeysuckle Avenue. The youth said he yelled at them and they ran off the porch and down the road and possibly into a wooded area. Lt. Alexander and Lt. Blackmon responded to investigate the scene. The matter was being forwarded for further investigation.
