Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Friday and it’s brought to you by Presbyterian College Athletics… The Blue Hose football schedule this year includes 6 home games… The first is Sept. 7th as they host Brevard… The other home games are against Charlotte, VMI, Point University, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb…. Braves:

  • The Braves get back in action tonight as they start a week-long road trip with the first stop being in Chicago for a weekend series with the White Sox.

Greenville Drive:

  • Drive 5 – Tourist 2… The Greenville Drive and the Ashville Tourist finally got their series started up at Flour Field with a doubleheader… In the first 7-inning game the Drive took a 5-2 win over the Tourist… Both teams had 7 hits but timely hitting and a couple of Tourist errors gave the victory to the Drive.
  • Drive 4 – Tourist 2… In the second game of the double header which was a makeup of Wednesday night’s rained out game , the Drive were victorious again taking a 4-2 win over the Tourist… The two teams will finish their 3 game series tonight at Flour Field and then the Lexington Legends will come to town to face the Drive in a 4 game series.

NASCAR:

  • The Nationwide Schedule shows the teams racing at the Chicagoland Speedway for a 3:00 pm race that can be seen on ESPN.
  • The Sprint Cup Schedule shows that they have the weekend off. 

College Football:

  • South Carolina placed four players on the 2013 Preseason All-SEC squads selected by the media attending this year’s SEC Media Days, it was announced Thursday morning. South Carolina junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was a first-team selection as was Bruce Ellington, who earned first-team honors as an all-purpose specialist. Tight end Rory Anderson received second-team accolades with guard A.J. Cann a third-team pick.
  • Predicted Order of Finish: The media picked Alabama to win the SEC Championship and Georgia to be their opponent in the SEC Championship Game… South Carolina was picked to finish second in the SEC Eastern Division and Texas A & M second in the Western Division.

  • ACC Media Day:  The ACC will start their version of Media Days (ACC Football Kickoff) this Sunday up in Greensboro, NC…  In addition to Coach Dabo Sweeney, QB Tajh Boyd and LB Spencer Shuey.

This & That:

  • Clinton Coaches Pitch State Championship Fundraiser: A couple of weeks ago the Clinton Dixie Youth Coaches Pitch All-Star Star team won the state championship which qualified them to move on to the Region Tournament in Rockwood, Tenn. Starting on Friday, July 26th… The cost for this trip is at least $5000… The Clinton YMCA is accepting donations which are 100% tax deductible but there is also another way you can help… Zaxby’s of Laurens will donate 10% of all sales tonight between the hours of 5 – 8 pm if you mention the all-stars when ordering… They will do the same again on Wednesday, July 24th… So if you plan on eating out tonight or next Wednesday, please consider going to Zaxby’s and mention the Clinton All-Stars when ordering… Thank you in advance from the all-stars.

  • And finally, its only 44 days until the start of high school football season on August 30th when Laurens will travel to BHP and Clinton will go to Gaffney. The night before PC will open their season at Wake Forest.

Clinton YMCA:

  • Tennis Camp… Clinton High School Coach Clovis Simmons will be conducting a tennis camp at the Clinton YMCA for youth 4 and up on different times July 22nd – 25th…  Information about times for the different age groups and costs are can be found in a posting in Featured Sports section at wlbg.com … Registration deadline is Friday July 19th at 5:00 pm for both of these camps so don’t delay… For more information contact the Clinton YMCA at 864-833-1555.

Laurens YMCA:

  • Soccer Camp… The Laurens YMCA will be holding an archery camp for youth ages 7-12 July 23rd – 25th and a wrestling camp for youth ages 5-13 on those same dates… This archery camp will be conducted by Coach Ed Prescott and the wrestling camp by Coach Rob Sheffield of LDHS and Coach Joseph Kemp … The deadline to register for these camps is July 21st  … For more information see the posting in the Featured Sports section at wlbg.com or call the Y at 984-2621….

City of Laurens Parks & Recreation:

  • Kid’s Choice Camp….
